Knee pain and knee osteoarthritis (gonarthrosis)

Your knee hurts — but the knee may not be the cause. The root of the problem often starts in the pelvis.

1

There are two kinds of knee pain

  • Traumatic knee pain — direct injury to the joint
  • Non-traumatic knee pain — the influence of the abdominal organs on the joint, hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus), degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine, and herniated disc

In addition, flat feet and valgus deformity should not be ruled out as causes of knee pain. Even if the MRI results show no problem, the cause may lie in the valgus alignment of the foot.

2

What does sitting for hours do?

  • “Locks” the pelvis
  • It makes the spine passive
  • Weakens the muscles

As a result, the pain shows up somewhere completely different: in the knee, ankle, elbow or neck.

3

The most important muscle

The most important muscle for protecting the knee joint is the quadriceps (m. quadriceps femoris). This muscle stabilizes the knee, reduces pain and distributes the load evenly. Weakness in this muscle can disrupt blood and lymph flow and cause swelling (edema) in the legs.

4

Knee osteoarthritis (gonarthrosis)

In knee osteoarthritis (gonarthrosis), correctly chosen physiotherapy exercises help reduce pain, improve mobility and strengthen the knee joint.

Prolotherapy and PRP (platelet-rich plasma)

A regenerative treatment method for repairing damaged ligaments and tendons.

Physiotherapy

No two pains are the same — so no two patients’ treatments should be the same either.

Magnetotherapy

Electromagnetic field therapy — it reduces joint inflammation and makes movement more comfortable.

Kinesiology taping (kinesio tape)

An elastic tape applied to the skin — it supports the muscles and joints and reduces pain.
