Wry neck (torticollis)

If your baby’s head is constantly tilted to one side, or they have difficulty moving their neck...

Torticollis is a deformity in which the head tilts to one side and the chin turns to the opposite side. It may develop as a result of injury to the muscle during birth or the baby’s position in the womb.

1

The most common cause

Lateral flexion of the atlas vertebra in the neck — as a result, the neck muscles lock up and the child cannot turn their neck freely.

2

Consequences of delayed intervention

  • Scoliosis
  • Facial asymmetry
  • Difficulties with motor skills
  • Headaches and upper back pain

During osteopathic treatment, the muscles are worked with very gentle touches, the atlas is returned to its proper position, and the spasms in the child's neck are released.
